Place + Purpose:

Reimaging Oakland’s Lake Merritt Channel Park

Fall 2020 // LDARCH 200A: Fundamentals of Landscape Design // Richard Hindle + Tomas McKay

Channel Park is located just south of Downtown Oakland, connecting Lake Merritt to the Alameda Channel and Estuary Park. My redesign of Channel Park focuses on creating a sense of place and purpose within the greater community. Stepped waterfronts, added seating, extended greening, and an elevated bridge passing under the I-90 freeway and over Amtrak provide a community connection to the estuary from Lake Merritt.
